Dawn Butler, MP for Brent in northwest London, is campaigning in Parliament for an annual day of remembrance, in recognition of next year’s bicentenary of the abolishment of slavery in the British Empire. She looks at the devastating atrocities of the past and recognises that we must educate people at grass-roots level to help emancipate those who are still discriminated against today.
