About Black History Month

The origins begin in the United States and it is still celebrated there in February each year. The idea took hold in the UK some 30 or more years ago. Allocated a month Black History Season (October) provides a comprehensive guide to all the activities around the community, going well into November.

This website is not just about providing a comprehensive guide to all the activities during BHM. It also provides a central platform from which we can to promote knowledge; disseminate information on the positive contributions of people of African descent to British Society, heighten confidence and raise awareness. The month was initially developed, delivered and managed as an educational and historical awareness in young people of African and Caribbean culture – thus embracing a collective ancestry, but it is open to participation by everyone.
