The lead organisation behind Black History Month is Positive Message Limited and a range of partners that have included the Spectrum Housing Group, The Radian Housing group and Southampton Solent University have all played a part in making Black History Month.

Don John, born in North West London of Sierra Leonean parentage, founded BHM in 2005 and he was to later collaborate with Jayanti Shah and together they have transformed this occasion into a significant event in the Southampton City calendar.
